Police in India have attempted to arrest a man after accusing him of offering his wife up to seven men in exchange for drug money, as reported by Mirror Online.
The man, who remains unidentified, is an alleged drug addict and investigators note that he took photos during the brutal gang rape of his wife, who is 22.
The seven alleged rapists, who are drug addicts as well, and the rape survivor belong to the same village in the Indian state of Punjab, according to Times of India.
The horrific incident allegedly happened in June of this year, with a criminal complaint following shortly thereafter. The man’s unidentified wife confirmed with police that her husband took money from the seven youths in order to sustain his addiction. The 22-year-old and her husband have a child together, reports indicate.
Police officials said that the lewd pictures were taken as an attempt to blackmail the victim. Both the husband and the seven alleged rapists are said to have taken a number of these photos.
Though authorities have arrested the seven men who allegedly partook in the assault, they have yet to find the victim’s husband. They have attempted several raids in order to nab the man but have, thus far, come up short, it has been noted.
Indian authorities have booked the seven men under Section 376 (rape) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Investigators have not revealed what drugs the victim’s husband is alleged to have purchased with his ill-gotten gains.
